A Journey Across the Spectrum Chapter 32, Part 3
Hayden looked up at the cloud of fire, soot and burning stone that exploded past him in terror, awed and horrified by the colossal mountain's unrestrained power as the sky above him stained inky black. Lightning arced through the clouds of soot as they rolled upwards, arcing out into the air and striking the ground all around them.
“I don't think that's dormant!” Aurica shrieked.
“GO!” Hayden screamed at the scientist, barely able to hear himself over the roar of the eruption.
“What about the sirens?!” the man defended, pointing at the array just a few hundred feet in front of them.
“FUCK THE SIRENS!” Hayden screamed, “GET US THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!”
The truck turned abruptly to the side, sliding along the rim before gaining traction and turning down the side of the mountain, careening roughly over the boulders and bits of flaming rocks that were beginning to land on the ground.  Hayden turned around and looked up at the m

Hayden watched as Melody walked back up to his side, grinning broadly at her victory.  “You sure you're okay?” he asked.
Melody laughed.  “I feel fine, Master.  Oh, I feel Great!
York shook his head.  “Very well, child.  You leave me with no choice, so I shall oblige your foolish endeavors.  I, Executive York, shall crush you into dust!”
Hayden rolled his shoulders, raising his arm up, scar blazing red-hot.  “Let's go!  Melody!”
Exec. York threw out a Pokeball.  “Go, Crassus!”
The Tyranitar appeared above Melody and fell fist first into the ground before her.  Melody scowled at the massive green Goliath, recalling the last time they had battled.
“Crassus,” York called.  “Hammer Arm!”
“Flame Wheel!” Hayden called.
Melody curled into a ball of fire and shot away, ricocheting off of the wall as she dodged the crushing blow.

Chapter 32: Rise to Glory
Hayden sat on the gondola quietly, listening to the quiet music playing over the speakers, Melody sitting on the floor to his right and Face McPunchy sitting to his left.  Jim was nowhere to be seen, having still been in a rather foul mood, Hayden having left him to mope around the Cinnabar Pokemon Center.  Aurica sat across the gondola, staring down at the floor, avoiding eye contact with Hayden, while Klauss, having not been in a bad mood, sat conspicuously close to Aurica's side.
Melody looked fantastic, as if the incident on the beach had never happened, which, for some odd reason, placed a strange, questioning concern in Hayden's thoughts.  She was more energetic, more vibrant, and more talkative than she had ever been in the months that he had known her, and it concerned him deeply at her sudden change in demeanor.
Aurica, on the other hand, looked downright miserable, avoiding eye contact with Hayden and speaking considerably less to him,

Hayden scratched the back of his head in frustration, eyes down on the floor, deep in thought.  Three days had gone by since Melody had rather mysteriously vanished from her Pokeball, and Hayden had been looking for her since.  He had searched the entirety of Cinnabar South, through the market places and all the way up the Eastern and Western coastlines of the Island, even going so far as to ask the inhabitants of the island for their assistance in locating the Fire Type.
“I don't know what to do,” Hayden told Jim.  “I've looked everywhere and I can't find her.”
“Oh, would you look at that,” Jim grumped.  “The great Hayden Fyreskorn actually has, holy shit, an issue.  Let's all stop and help him figure it out.”
“I've been looking for her for three days,” Hayden countered.  “It's a little more than just 'an issue,' at this point.”

Chapter 30: If you can't take the Heat
Hayden walked down the brow of Jim's ship, his boots clunking on the metallic stairs as he descended the many steps to the pier at Cinnabar Island.  The morning sunrise turned the whole sky a brilliant crimson, the thin layer of clouds above shining vibrantly in the sunlight.  As Hayden reached the wooden pier, he reached up and patted Aurica.
“We're on the pier now,” he said.
Aurica sighed in relief and relaxed her grip on Hayden's head, slumping down partially over his face.  “Why does that boat have to be so damn big?” she demanded.
“First off, it's not a boat,” Jim said, matter-of-factly.  “It's a yacht.  Second off, it's not that big.”
Hayden looked over his shoulder, craning his neck up to see the top of the yacht.  “Jim, let's be honest right now.  That bo... yacht, is easily ten stories out of the water.  You could probably fit most of the island'

Hayden's boot crunched down on the stony beach of the Seafoam Islands, the beach waves lapping up at his ankles.  Jim stepped out of the longboat, stepping down into the water beside Hayden, the waves rolling up gently around his ankles, much to Hayden's surprise.  The younger boy looked down at Jim's submerged boots, then up at the taller Trainer.  “Jim, what are you doing?” Hayden asked.
“Following you on some ill-conceived notion of heroism,” Jim answered.
“No,” Hayden said.  “Not that part.  Why are you in the water?”
“I brought my galoshes with me, figuring that we'd be trudging around in some dark, cold, dank, dreary cavern.”
“What happened to walking in water being impossible?” Hayden exclaimed.
Jim looked down into the water at his feet.  “Oh, this water isn't dyed a deep blue,” he explained matter-of-factly.  “If that were the

Hayden stared at the yacht before him, a handsome vessel of over eighty feet in length, four stories tall and equipped with state of the art sonar, radar and radio equipment.  The bright white paint reflected the water below it as the waves lapped against the side, splashing gently at the waterline.  Impressed, Hayden placed one hand on his hip and nodded.
“That really is a nice yacht you have there,” he complimented.
Jim looked at the yacht disappointed.  “That dinky little thing?” he demanded.  “That doesn't even have a swimming pool.  No, Hayden, that is not my yacht.”
Hayden cocked an eyebrow at Jim.  “But you said that your yacht was on this pier,” Hayden defended.  “And this is the only yacht I see here.”
Jim sighed.  “What do you call that thing behind me?”

Jim watched Hayden run out of the Museum's front doors, chasing after the Houndoom wearing the necklace.  For some reason, Hayden had shouted that Klauss was now in charge, and for some other inexplicable reason, everyone seemed to expect the Aron to do something spectacular.  Klauss looked up at Steven's Aggron, then at Steven.  "Uh, Steven... I say we... hit them?"
Steven looked down at the Aron for a second, then shrugged casually.  "Why not?  Aggron, Iron Tail."
The Aggron spun around and smashed his tail into Crassus' chest, knocking the Tyranitar back head over heels.  Jim raised his eyebrows in mild surprise at the effectiveness of the attack, then turned his head back to the Ancient Indigo Exhibit at a loud, sharp crash.

Hayden and Jim stood inside of the massive front room of the Pewter City Museum, a place of majesty, knowledge, learning, and very old bones.  Aurica sat perched atop Hayden's head, her front pads resting lightly on his head as she daintily sniffed the air.  Hayden heard his Pokémon's whiffing and took a sniff of the air himself.
"Gawd, what's that terrible smell?" Aurica demanded.
Hayden exhaled out his nose, purging the distinct odor of Amouge Die Pour Homme and mothballs from his sinuses.  "That," he explained, "Is the smell of rich people."
Jim sniffed his underarm as Hayden and Aurica walked forward to the reception counter.  "How much to get in?" Hayden asked.
The attendant smiled at him.  "The Pewter City Museum is free of charge," she explained.
"Oh.  Awesome," Hayden said, turning back to Jim.  For some reason, Steven Stone was still nearby, bringing up a question in Hayden's mind.

Chapter 26; A Heart Warming Story
Hayden walked down the aisle of the Saffron Express, eyeing the narrow, uncomfortable looking car warily.  The room was cramped, dimly lit, and smelled of moldy cheese and wet cardboard, and something else incredibly unpleasant, like old seafood.  There were oddly shaped smears in the carpet, and bits of the rubber walkway were broken up and cracked.  The window drapes appeared to have been, at some point, a bright red, but were now somewhere between burgundy and brown.  Yet that was not what caught Hayden's eye.  That horribly disgusting thing was the seats.
Some of them were torn open, with bits of cushion fluff sticking out of them at strange angles.  Some of them simply had holes in them where people had stuffed their chewing gum, or bits of pencil, or other things.  There were more still that had stains in the fake leather that came from... well, some things are just best left unsaid.

Hayden stood outside of the Fuschia City Gym, staring at the building in the morning sunlight.  He had been ready to go inside for what seemed like hours, but Jim was more cautious, preventing any further advancement until he had sufficiently checked for "booby-traps," a word that had made Hayden and Aurica giggle.  Jim had simply rolled his eyes and gone to look at the walls and ground near the door.
Klauss hung back, standing nervously beside Hayden, watching his Trainer examine the Gym.  Hayden sighed and looked up, waiting for the strenuous search to be finished.  "Holy crap, man," he called, catching the boy's attention.  "I could have beaten her already, gotten the badge, then made it to Saffron by now.  But no, you have to do this crap."
Jim turned away from the Gym walls.  "You are the most impatient person I have ever met," Jim retorted.

Aurica sat atop Hayden's head, basking in the early morning sunlight, beaming down from overhead, warming the cool morning air.  The sound of Pidgey chirping happily in the trees filled their ears with a high, soprano melody.  In the distance, the sound of the ocean waves gently washing over the nearby seashore came to her ears, bringing with it the saline scent of the water.  The lush, green grass reflected the shimmering morning sun off of the plethoral dewdrops.  Everything was right with the world.
"Good morning, Master."
Aurica sulked at the familiar, equine whinny.  Well, almost everything was right with the world.  The Vulpix looked at the Ponyta with contempt, then turned up her nose with a grunt of disdain, looking in the opposite direction, ensuring that Melody saw the gesture, then turned down to look at Hayden's face.  "So, Hayden," she asked, "What's the plan for today?"

Hayden shifted slightly on Melody's back, an unconmfortable chaffing sensation beginning to surge up in his groin.  Having never ridden bareback (or even horseback) before, Hayden was unaccustomed to the shifting gait of an equine, and the constant rubbing over the last few hours had rubbed his inner thighs quite raw.  Again he shifted, trying to ease the discomfort of his sore skin against his jeans, but no matter how he positioned himself, the jagged soreness still persisted.
"Man, why is this so uncormfortable?" Hayden inquired to no one in particular.  "The movies and teenage girls make riding on horses seem like the best thing ever."
Aurica snickered.  "Hear that?" she asked Melody.  "You're uncomfortable."
Jim snickered.  "Well, you could always ride side-saddle."
Hayden looked down at Melody's back, then back at Jim.  "I don't know what that is.  Besides, she doesn't even have a saddle, so how am I supposed to sit sideways in it?"

Hayden awoke to a pressure on his chest, and judging by the weight, it felt like Aurica.  The young Trainer slowly opened his eyes to bright Pokemon Center lights, meeting the worried gaze of Aurica and Jim, the other Trainer sitting in a chair beside him.  "What do you want?" Hayden asked.
Aurica hugged his neck tightly.  "Holy crap, Hayden!" she said.  "You aren't allowed to scare me like that!"
Hayden pried his Pokémon from around his neck, aiding in his breathing, then shoved her back a small distance.  "Wait, what are you talking about?" he asked.  "You dropped me off of that balcony.  Why would you be scared for me?"  Suddenly, Hayden realized where he was.  "And how did I get here?  The last thing I remember was looking for Jim in a sea of Popcorn..."
Jim stared at him, obviously confused by his statement.  "Hayden, you've been unconcious for days."

Hayden awoke to a gentle pressure on his chest and looked up at the cause.  Aurica was curled up on his stomach area, small breathing sounds coming from her tiny figure.  The Trainer smiled and pet her gently, her soft, white fur running through his fingers softly.  After the incident in the basement, the group had taken a few days to recover from their wounds.  Hayden was still sore, but at least his ribcage didn't burn everytime he breathed any more.  Slowly, he gently slid Aurica off of his chest and sat upright with a yawn and a stretch.  He looked back down at her and thought over the events in the basement.
Down there, when Hayden had been hurt, Aurica had come to his rescue, hurting herself in order to save him.  The Black Flare Attack was the most powerful move that he had ever heard of, and, when he mentioned it to Lance, the Champion had no idea what to make of the attack either.  Hayden thought back to what the Champion had sa

Hayden and Jim walked down the road leaving Celedon, heading back in the direction of Saffron City.  Aurica sat upon Hayden's head, purring happily in the bright sunlight, her tails flipping happily against his back.  Hayden was very pleased, his Badge Case now one badge heavier than it was last week.  As they walked down the road, Hayden noticed some commotion up ahead.  A group of people in DNR hats stood on the side of the road, staring at a clipboard.  As they drew near to the DNR personnel, Hayden could begin to overhear what they were talking about.
"There's no way these numbers can be right," the man holding the clip board said.
The man beside him shrugged.  "Boss, the machines don't lie.  Every single machine we had was within a deviation of five counts.  The numbers are right."

Arms of the Angels: Chapter I~ The Silver Deerling
Snowfall never knew of her destiny. She never once thought, on her first cold, freezing nights in the snow-blown Lost Land, that she could rise up to become more of a hero than any other dragon in the chronicles of time. She wasn’t your usual hero. She wasn’t a great, sword-wielding warrior or the chief of a mighty army, nor was she the reckless challenger who dove into boiling waters in order to save another. No, she wasn’t any of that. What she did happen to be was a tiny, mewling, baby Reshiram in the frozen Northlands of the Pokémon world. But the one thing that set her apart from all other Pokémon, even those of her own species, was that she was, in fact, blind.
The dragons that ruled over the Land were of four kinds. There were the kind-hearted Lucario of the kingdom Fiedi, the strong-willed Haxorus of kingdom Auroriis, the valiant Zekrom of kingdom Bellator, and the noble Reshiram of kingdom Reckshire. Both of
